Online Learning and Digital Divide
The shift toward online education has expanded access to learning opportunities globally, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has also highlighted significant inequalities. Students in low-income or rural areas often lack reliable internet connections, devices, or digital literacy, creating a digital divide that hinders their academic progress. While some educational institutions have implemented inclusive strategies like mobile-based learning, offline resources, or community internet centers, these solutions are not always sustainable or scalable. Moreover, teachers also face challenges adapting content for online platforms and engaging students virtually. Experts argue that digital inclusion must become a policy priority, with investment in infrastructure, teacher training, and student support systems. Without addressing these disparities, online learning could widen rather than bridge the education gap.
